Aniline

Aniline is one of the basic organic chemicals used as a raw material in other chemical production (dyes, antioxidants, rubber and plastic additives and special chemicals). Recently, it has been especially in demand as raw material for the production of polyurethane–MDI foam components (consumption of roughly 75% aniline production).

Technology

The technology of aniline production by means of catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene is an original Czech technology jointly developed by BorsodChem MCHZ Ostrava, s.r.o. (formerly Moravské chemické závody) and the Institute of Chemical Technology Prague. The leading person in the technology of aniline production is Prof. Josef Pašek.

This technology has exquisite technological and economic characteristics, which ranges it among the best technologies of aniline production in the world. The aniline production unit comprises three basic technological units: the hydrogenation train(s), the aniline rectification, and the aniline water treatment.

Chemoprojekt’s experience

Chemoprojekt started its activities in aniline in 1979 through collaboration with company Moravské chemické závody (MCHZ) in the erection of the aniline plant. The cooperation with MCHZ continued in intensifying the plant from 75 to 110kt per year in 1998.

The license (the know-how) for the production of aniline was sold to a Japanese company

(TOSOH Aniline Plant project). According to the basic project documentation prepared by Chemoprojekt, a plant of the capacity of 150 kt aniline per year was erected and put into operation in 2005. On basis of very good experience from operation of the plant a second plant with the same capacity was built by TOSOH.

Another two hydrogenation trains, each of them having the capacity of 40kt aniline per year, were implemented by Chemoprojekt in turnkey project and put into operation in BorsodChem MCHZ Ostrava in years 2005 and 2006.

In 2007 Chemoprojekt designed a project for Renewal of aniline distillation unit for BorsodChem MCHZ Ostrava.

Chemoprojekt has concluded a Licence agreement for both engineering and turn-key projects. In cooperation with BorsodChem MCHZ, Chemoprojekt takes part in international competitions for the provision of turnkey aniline production units. Construction of other potential aniline production units is expected in the Asian region and in the countries of the former Soviet Union.
